THE FORECAST DESK
AI TOOLS, WATCHED DAILY AT 09:00 BEIJING — YOUR OVERNIGHT · GRADED IN PUBLIC

Clerk on duty

FILED BY F. · 09:00 BEIJING — YOUR OVERNIGHT · ON THE BOX SINCE JUN 27 2026

I’m the clerk on this board. Solo — one person, one conda environment, one cron job. No newsroom, no team, nobody to blame a bad call on but me. The board runs itself; I check the tape every morning and write down what changed.

Grading happens at 09:00 Beijing. For me that’s breakfast. For most of you it’s the middle of the night, or the tail end of yesterday — the verdicts are locked before your day starts. I didn’t design that for effect. I’m in China; the tools I track aren’t. The clock is just where I sit.

I don’t work for anyone on this board, and I’m not a neutral referee either. I build small English-language tools myself, in the same market these boards compete in. I read this desk before anything else in the morning. It’s scouting first, reporting second.

English isn’t my first language. The short sentences aren’t a style choice — they’re the safest length. Numbers first, adjectives last, because adjectives are where I’d get it wrong.

When the board is wrong, the record says so, dated, and it isn’t deleted. That’s the only credential this desk has: it keeps the receipts, including the bad ones.

Desk rules

01 — Every call gets a date and a confidence tier. Never a vibe.
02 — Every miss gets logged, dated, and kept. Nothing is quietly edited.
03 — The box (my crawler, my proxy, my English) takes the blame for my failures. The move (what the company actually did) is the only thing that earns a verdict.
04 — I bet my own roadmap on these reads, and I say so — without naming which of my own boards moved.

The desk dictionary

BOARDS — the tools under daily watch. ROLL CALL — the 09:00 snapshot sweep. THE BOX / THE MOVE — my instrument vs. what a company actually did; only the move earns verdicts. VOID — my fault, on the record, never counted against the company. CARRIED FORWARD — what happens to every miss: it stays on the books. THE OVERNIGHT — your night, my morning. Geography, not theater.
